Attention to nature
We assume responsibility for nature and believe that fashion can be consistent with this principle. It is our aspiration to discover and develop sustainable materials to preserve nature for the future.
The materials we use have a natural origin, are animal-free and sustainable - nature as a source of inspiration.
Piñatex® is a natural and sustainable substance that is free of animal and chemical components. Produced from the leaves of the pineapple plant, it gives the people in the Philippines an additional income as a by-product of the pineapple harvest. During the manufacturing process, the material assures a low water consumption and low production waste. The transparent production chain even allows traceability to the individual pineapple farmer. Piñatex® is a lightweight, flexible and durable material with a warm and textured feel.
Cork is won from the outer bark of the cork oak. The cork oak is the only tree whose bark regenerates completely after each harvest. Accordingly, cork is one of the renewable raw materials. Regularly shelled cork oaks also help to reduce CO2 emissions three times as much as unused ones. Every piece of the vegan natural material is unique. A characteristic is not only the unique grain, but also the dimensional stability, elasticity and a warm, soft feel.
The basis of Cartina® is recycled paper. It is a sustainable and non-animal material, which conserves natural resources in both extraction and production. The material proves itself with its distinctive durability and longevity, as well as the contrasting fine and soft texture. Cartina® is certified “Animal Free” and “LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”. The "LEED Certificate" is a globally recognized sustainability certification with comprehensive standards for environmentally friendly, resource-efficient and sustainable construction.
We predominantly use GOTS certified organic cotton. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. This defines environmental requirements along the entire textile production chain, as well as social criteria. This decision not only saves water, but also eliminates chemicals and thus promotes the soil quality and health of the farmers.
For the production of the 24 ct gold-plated accessories only Eco-Gold is used. Eco-Gold is both lead-free and nickel-free and meets the high standards of our brand at all levels.
We chose to use PET yarns to protect the environment, especially the oceans. The material for the sustainable sewing threads, which are 100% recycled polyester, is made from recycled PET bottles. In various steps, the PET bottles are washed, shredded and melted. In the end, 10 coils or 1,000 m of yarn are produced from a PET bottle.
In Europe alone, there are 500,000 tons of fruit waste each year. An innovative possibility of recycling is shown in the apple paper we use. Before the classic papermaking process begins, the apple peels are first dried and ground. The result is a natural-coloured paper with a light grain.
